National Theatre Connections - 'The School Film'

Tuesday, 14 March 2017

Last week, 21 of our Year 9 Students starred in the play ‘The School Film’ by Patrick Marber, held in Blatchington Mill’s Windmill Theatre as part of the National Theatre Connections festival.

 "What are Great Expectations?"

"It means he’s going to be rich. And a gentleman."

…A whole school assembles in the hall to watch ‘The School Film’ which turns out to be an old British classic from the 1940s, in black and white no less. As the young viewers absorb the adventures of the characters of the play, they begin to discover what their own expectations might be.

The National Theatre Connections festival gives young people the experience of professional theatre-making which mirrors that of a theatre company producing a new play. The year 9 actors starred in the cast of the play, whilst Sixth Formers took part in stage management, lighting and sound for the production.  All in all, the performances went very well indeed and the students are looking forward to their next show on the 21st of March at the Chichester Festival Theatre from 7pm.
