Maths Inspiration 2017

Friday, 24 November 2017

On Wednesday 45 of our year 11 students were lucky enough to attend a Maths Inspiration lecture at London’s Piccadilly Theatre! The Maths Inspiration lectures are designed to give students the opportunity to experience inspiring maths speakers live in theatres, presenting mathematics in the context of exciting, real-world applications.

Mr Davies, trip leader, said, ‘the Maths inspiration show was well received by pupils who were entertained with an array of active mathematical ideas and oddities through a blend of stand-up comedy and creative Maths demonstrations’. Our students even got to discuss the show afterwards with Colin Wright, mathematician and juggler!

Our year 11’s also got the opportunity to visit the Wonderlab at the Science Museum! The Wonderlab features a number of interactive mathematical and science based tasks such as heat sensor screens, pulleys that allowed students to pull themselves up to the ceiling and even slides! There were also a number of historical and ground breaking exhibits such as the first ever calculator, an enigma machine, ancient trigonometrical instruments and early astronomical clocks.

Thank you to Mr Davies, Mr Colwill and Mr Beyfus for making the trip happen and well done to our year 11 students for being so enthusiastic and making it a great day out.
