Blatch Awarded Rainbow Flag Award
Blatchington Mill is delighted to announce that we have been awarded the Rainbow Flag Award! The Rainbow Flag Award is a quality assurance framework for schools that encourages a proactive, whole-school approach to LGBT inclusion. The award requires schools to actively involve all members of the school community including pupils, governors, teachers, senior leaders and parents in the discussion about how we can achieve a safe, welcoming and supportive environment for LGBT children and young people.
We received our Rainbow Flag Award at a ceremony held at Brighton Aldridge Community Academy on 28th February and were treated to an incredibly moving talk by Joanne Monck, a Stonewall role model for schools and a transgender activist who spoke about her experiences as a transgender woman and told our students: ‘you’re all an inspiration to the youth of today and I’m very proud of you all’.
Ms Auld, who has been working towards the Rainbow Flag Award with our ambassadors said: ‘I am so amazingly proud of how the students have worked to make projects happen. We have also really appreciated senior leadership support with our initiatives'.
We’d like to thank Ms Auld, Allsorts Youth Project, and our LGBT community at Blatchington Mill for their hard work and support in helping us to achieve this valuable and important award – we will continue to ensure that Blatchington Mill remains a safe and welcoming environment for all students and the wider community.
