Course description:

Horse jumping over a logThis course is run at Plumpton College for one whole day per week throughout Years 10 and 11. Students wishing to follow it should have an interest in horses and be prepared to do a number of tasks in and around stables; this is not simply a horse-riding day!

Course structure and contents:

Students will learn to assist with the general care of a range of horses and understand their movement and accommodation. They will gain experience in grooming, cleaning and other areas of stable management. Good progress throughout the course will allow those on it the opportunity to ride towards the end of it.

Assessment, weighting and timings of assessments:

Students will complete and be assessed on a range of practical tasks throughout the course. All assessments will be practical. Students will also be expected to complete a portfolio of evidence in support of the work undertaken at the college.

Books, equipment, materials and resources recommended / needed:

Materials, resources and equipment will be provided for students. Old clothes which students don’t mind getting stained and marked are advised for each session. All health and safety equipment will be provided. Students will need to provide themselves with a large A4 ring binder folder.

Opportunities for study beyond Key Stage 4:

Opportunities exist for students to continue studying this and other courses of a similar nature. Progression will depend upon successful completion of the course and the demonstration of an appropriate attitude on it.
