Blatchington Mill School and Sixth Form College Prime Minister Gordon Brown made a surprise visit to Blatchington Mill School during the Labour Conference in Brighton. He was accompanied by Ed Balls, Secretary for Childen, Schools and Families, Sir Alan Steer, Consultant, Vernon Coker, Schools Minister and Celia Barlow, local MP.
They visited Ms S Bailey’s PSHE group and then on to Ms H Baldock’s Science group.
Their focus was on how we use SEAL across the curriculum. Ed Balls then made an impromptu visit to Mr A Pollard’s Maths group.
Sam (head boy) and Hannah (head girl) welcomed the visitors and remained with them throughout the visit. Two GCSE media students, Anastasia Stevenson and Holly Isaacs, were allowed access to the whole visit and even had time to interview him on their own.
The students throughout the school were superb - attentive, intelligent and engaged. Our guests congratulated us on being such a wonderfully calm, innovative and inspiring school.

"....But parents also want their children to go to an orderly school with a strong head teacher who won’t tolerate bullying or disruptive behaviour in the classroom – like Blatchington Mill School in Hove which I visited this morning with the Prime Minister."
Thank you to all students and staff who made this such a great event - Ms Felkin, Head teacher
