Inter-County Squash Runner Up - Ashley, Year 8

Friday, 20 January 2017

Blatchington Mill School has a whole host of sporting talent across all year groups.

Ashley from year 8 played some exceptional squash at the British Open at the beginning of January against players from all over the world, coming twentieth in the tournament.

More recently however, Ashley represented Sussex in the Boy’s Under 13’s Inter-County National Squash Final, held in Pontefract. The team played 2 previous stages against various other counties and qualified for the final round. On the Saturday they played against Buckinghamshire and all 5 players won their games and went through to the final on Sunday.

They were playing against Leinster from Ireland, including one player who recently won the British Open! Ashley beat his opponent who is currently ranked number 2 in Ireland and overall the team finished with a result of 3-2 to Leinster, ranking their team 2nd in the tournament - a fantastic end result!

Ashley has been presented with a Head Teacher’s award for his squash achievements and we look forward to seeing what he’s up to next!

Well done to Ashley and teammates!
