School Uniform and Equipment

Uniform

• Blatchington Mill School logo to be seen on uniform.
• Simple plain school trousers or skirts, not with extra frills, pockets etc.
• If ties worn the knot should be visible.
• Skirts must be of an appropriate/respectable length to avoid embarrassment.
• Plain black shoes required.
• No jewellery except watch, one plain ring per hand, one necklace and one stud/ small sleeper per ear. (For health and safety reasons, hoops should not be large enough to get a finger through). No other piercings are allowed.

Students in Years 7 and 8

  • maroon V neck with BMS logo
  • school tie (all students)
  • white shirt with collar (not polo shirt)
  • black trousers or skirt
  • black shoes (not trainers)

Students in Years 9 and 10

  • maroon sweatshirt with BMS logo, over white polo shirt with BMS logo
  • black trousers or skirt
  • black shoes (not trainers)

Students in Year 11

  • sweatshirt of a colour chosen by the majority of students in the Year Group over white polo shirt with BMS logo
  • black trousers or skirt
  • black shoes (not trainers)
  • The n ew uniform can be worn from Summer term in Year 10

The following are not school uniform and are not allowed

• Denim jeans or combat trousers.
• Shorts (tailored or otherwise) or any trousers other than full length
• Boots
• Trainers or plimsolls. (change of footwear needed for PE, should be trainers or appropriate boots)
• Patterned tights
• Hoodies – with or without zips. A hoodie is made of sweatshirt material and is not waterproof
• Studded or coloured belts.
• Extreme hair colours or cuts.
• No outer garments, scarves, or gloves to be worn in lessons
• Only Blatch uniform and a coat is allowable. No other sweaters/cardigans are allowed
• Hoods on coats/hats not to be worn on school premises

PE Kit

Students in Years 7 and 8

Maroon polo with BMS logo,
black shorts
black football socks
black tracksuit bottoms or black leggings
black sweatshirt
trainers (boots for rugby/football)

Students in Years 9 and 10

Maroon polo with BMS logo,
black shorts
black tracksuit bottoms or black leggings
black sweatshirt
trainers (boots for rugby/football)

Students in Year 11

Suitable sports clothing appropriate for chosen activities.

• No jewellery
• Long hair to be tied up
• No plimsolls (for health and safety reasons)
• Boots must be worn for rugby
• Re year 11 kit - combat trousers, Bermuda shorts are not allowed

The following items should not be seen in school

• No mobile phones to be used. They must not be visible or audible during the school day. They may not be used on the school site
• No MP3 players or other electronic devices to be used on the school site.
• No skateboards or scooters to be brought into school.

Any of items above worn incorrectly/used will be confiscated immediately

Phones and electrical equipment to be passed in envelope including student name to SMT. Other items to be passed to YM/LDO. Students will be sent home to change once parents have been contacted by YM/LDO and agree to this. If parents are not available then the student will spend the day (including lunch and break) in isolation with YM/LDO.

Basic equipment all students must have with them

  • Pen and a spare.
  • Pencil and spare/sharpener
  • Ruler
  • Rubber
  • Colouring pencils
  • Calculator, pair of compasses
  • Homework diary
  • Appropriate sized school bag, big enough to carry books and folders
  • Books or folders needed for the day
  • Memory stick and headphones

Behaviour

  • No shouting in corridors, nor walking more than 2 abreast
  • Always walk on the left
  • No eating in corridors
  • Hold doors open for each other
  • Don’t drop litter
