I have been Deputy Head at Blatchington Mill for over 10 years and whilst I don't claim to know every student, I like to celebrate all their hard work and achievements. My background is originally as an English and Drama teacher, working as a Deputy Head in a school in East Sussex before coming to Blatch. The most important part of my role is ensuring that we are offering the best education we can to the students through our timetable; giving them opportunities to succeed in courses that are right for them and having the chance to experience learning beyond the classroom.

My role is to support and develop our classroom practice to meet the needs of all our learners. Learning at Blatch should be exciting and challenging, leading to deep progress across the breadth of our wide curriculum. As lead on behaviour and safety (including attendance and safeguarding), my role is also to create the happiest and safest learning environment for students to develop in, both academically and emotionally. My teaching specialism is English, and I came to Blatch over 5 years ago from Curriculum leadership in West Sussex and a previous career in business.

I studied Economics at The University of Essex before completing my PGCE at The Institute of Education, London. I have taught Business Studies, Economics and Travel & Tourism at several schools and sixth form colleges in West Sussex before Joining Blatchington Mill in September 2006. My role at the School is Inclusion and we aim to support student achieve success in a variety of ways to meet their needs.

I have been an Assistant Head since September 2012, having worked at Blatchington Mill for 5 years in a variety of roles including curriculum manager at Blatch6. My subject area is History, becoming a teacher following study at the London School of Economics and Institute of Education, London. My key focus is on teaching and learning and supporting all our students in making as much progress as possible.

I joined the teaching profession following the completion of an apprenticeship in Engineering and qualifying as a Production Engineer. After training as a teacher, I taught D&T in London before joining Blatch as the Curriculum Team Leader for Design. I later becameĀ Assistant Headteacher with responsibility for Key Stage 4 which has covered a wide range of areas including Options in Years 10 and 11, Applied (Vocational) Learning, the oversight of IAG (Information, Advice and Guidance) including Careers and more recently mentoring and academic intervention. The most important aspects of my work are to ensure students understand and make informed career choices; succeed on the courses they take and are happy being a part of the Blatch community.

I started at Blatch in September 2012, having previously held leadership positions in two London schools. I studied at UCL and the Institute of Education in history and then teaching. I am a confirmed tech geek, especially when it comes to using technology to enhance learning. I am committed to ensuring the very best educational outcomes for every student at Blatch.

Although trained as a geologist, I worked in IT engineering for a while, and have taught Computing and ICT for many years. All the systems we develop at Blatch ultimately have one goal - to maximise student progress. This includes designing and building our own systems such as BMS360, and results in Blatch being invited onto high profile UK initiatives such as Microsoft's Innovative Schools programme. In the past I have worked for the Open University and am the creator of the YacaPaca Online IT Baseline Tests for schools which are in use with over 1 million secondary school students every year.

After careers at senior level in marine and controls engineering, the performing arts, business advice and economic development I joined Blatch in 2008. My focus is firmly on ensuring that students have the physical and human environment and support to ensure safe and productive learning.
The first contact for most carers should please be the Learning Development Officers (LDOs). These roles are linked to each individual year group and the staff involved are able to direct contact to the relevant staff.
