Red Nose Day 2009

A fantastic £951.09 was raised by the school for Comic Relief on Friday 13th March! Activities included a joke competition and "Wear something red for Comic Relief".
Well done to everyone who took part. Thank you to Ms R Auld for coordinating the Red Nose Day activities.

The Pink Dolphin Appeal

The Year 7 students are supporting Pink Dolphin as their charity this year. The local Pink Dolphin raises money for Haywards Heath Breast Cancer facilities. They aim to raise £1000 over the year for this charity. They have already exceed the £300 target for their first event. The students held a Pink Day in October 2008 where everyone wore one item of pink and donated £1 to the charity. In December the students presented the cheque for £346.79 to Leoni Petrarca and of course Pink Dolphin herself came in to say thanks.

Eco Club

Blatchington Mill's Eco Club meets every Tuesday, Week 2. The school has achieved the Eco Schools Bronze status in 2008 and we are working towards our Silver Award. Last year, two students and one staff member were awarded "Brighton and Hove Evironmentalist of the Year" at the BHCC Green Oscars. Eco Club is committed to making the school more sustainable, protecting wildlife and promoting environmental awareness and healthy living in school and at home. Email: coregan@blatchingtonmill.org.uk for more information about Eco Club.

Bike-It

Bike-It Club meets every week. Bike-It is funded through SUSTRANS and provides intensive support and incentives to encourage children to cycle to school using existing infrastructure, roads etc. Blatchington Mill is the first secondary school in Hove to be included in the project. Children (and adults) can now get their Bikeability award - how to ride their bikes to the Government-approved National Standard for Cycle Training, which sets out the training and skills essential for making cycling trips in today’s road conditions.

Computers for Charities

Blatchington Mill School has supported Computers for Charities for over four years, initially donating redundant school computer equipment for the charity's African schools on Line educational program. In December 2008, the school organised a shoebox collection for the charity. Simon Rooksby, chairman of Computers for Charities and fellow trustee Mark Robinson delivered the shoeboxes to projects and villages in Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia and Zimbabwe.
