BlatchSix Key Stage 5 Results - Summer 2017

Thursday, 17 August 2017

BlatchSix students have been rewarded for their hard work and endeavour with a pleasing set of examination results for 2017. In Year 13, the college maintained a high overall pass rate of 97%, and an average grade per exam of a C, while 33% of all grades were at A*-B. The average grade for vocational and technical courses was a Distinction. The college is particularly proud to have continued the pattern of positive outcomes for students from disadvantaged backgrounds, and those students achieved a higher proportion of top grades than their peers, with 28% of their grades at A*/A.

The college performed particularly well in vocational and tech qualifications, and the following subjects all achieved at least 50% A*-B - Applied Science, Business, Creative Writing, German, Health & Social Care, IT, Music Technology, Performing Arts, Stage Management, Public Services, Sport, and Travel & Tourism.

The college has ambitious plans for the future, and the results for Year 12 show that this future is bright. Over a third (36%) of grades were A*/A – a rise of over 15% from the previous year, and 50% were graded A*/B - a rise of over 20% from the year before.

Headteacher Ashley Harrold was full of praise for both students and staff “All of the staff and students at BlatchSix have worked incredibly hard and the results reflect this. It is so pleasing to see students achieve the grades they need for the next stages in their lives – whether they are now entering employment, beginning an apprenticeship or starting a course at university. It is also fantastic to hear this morning that all students who applied to university for next year have met their entry requirements. As a college we have been challenging ourselves to improve further – we want the college to give all Hove learners the best chances of lifelong success – and the 15% improvement in A*/A grades and 20% improvement in A*-B grades for Year 12 is superb. We will look forward to developing the college further over the coming year.”

Over the past year BlatchSix has collaborated closely with Hove Park Sixth Form, and this will continue into 2018, with both colleges attributing this partnership and collaboration as key in providing a rich learning experience and improving outcomes at Post-16 for Hove learners.
