Blatchington Mill Dance Show

Friday, 13 January 2017

Blatchington Mill School’s Dance Show held in the Windmill Theatre was a real success. There were many impressive and diverse performances covering all different styles of dance including contemporary Street Dance, Ballet and Jazz, plus many more.  The evening consisted of performances from the lunch time dance club, The Reflex Dance Company, Year 10 GCSE dance groups and Blatchsix Performing Arts students, together with individual students’ routines.

Those who performed have worked incredibly hard on their routines and their work at rehearsals definitely paid off with fantastically choreographed performances from each and every dancer.

Some groups were performing GCSE pieces that were choreographed by students undertaking Dance as a subject at GSCE level. Myla, a year 10 dance student wrote in her performance blog,

‘Our Year 10 GCSE group arrived at the theatre by 6:30 to prepare for the performance. We were allocated the west wing trampoline gym to warm up and get ready. During the first half of the show we watched the performances from the audience until the interval. Then we went backstage to get ready. We styled our hair and all wore dark lipstick so we looked like a group, and then we warmed up and practiced tricks and lifts ready for our dance. We waited in the wings and performed our dance to an almost full audience. It was an amazing experience and it was fun to be a part of.’

The atmosphere on the night was electric with lots of seats full of enthusiastic spectators. One audience member commented, ‘it’s been a great and well organised evening; so wonderful to see the dancers doing what they do best!’

Performing Arts is one of Blatch’s areas of expertise and great pride is taken in our excellent facilities for Music, Drama and Dance subjects.

There will be many more performances to look forward to this year, so watch this space to see what’s coming up next!
