How to Apply to blatch6

Choosing your courses

You need to think carefully about what subjects you are interested in and what level of course you wish to apply for. See what courses we have to offer at Blatch6

Level 2 courses

Level 2 courses are at an intermediate level. They are usually for students who want to work at the equivalent of GCSE’s and who may want to focus on a particular area of study, e.g travel and tourism, art and design. Students will be expected to participate in supplementary subjects to make up a full course of study therefore these students must show they are able to study at this level by achieving grade A – C at GCSE in at least two subjects.

Level 3 courses

Level 3 courses are at an advanced level of study. To begin work on advanced level courses, students must achieve a minimum of 5 GCSE’S at grades A* to C in at least four different subjects.

A Levels

An A Level consists of six units studied over two years, marked by externally assessed exams and internally assessed coursework. Three units are generally assessed at the end of the first year, resulting in a qualification called the AS leverl (Advanced Subsidiary level). Another three modules are then assessed at the end of the second year, making up the A2. The A2 does not form a qualification in its own right and a satisfactory completion of both AS and A2 units is required for a completed A level in a given subject.

The normal practice is to take four subjects at AS level, reducing to three at A2, although some students continue with four. From September 2008, candidates will take four papers for most A levels, instead of the current six

Internal Blatch students

You will usually be given an allocated time for an interview where you will be seen by a member of the sixth form team. This will cover your progress so far, your plans for the future and any subject choices or questions. It will be your chance to find out more about the way sixth form works. You can hand your application form in during the interview.

External students from other institutions

Please fill in an application form for blatch6 and return or send to blatch6 reception, Maureen East. (See our Contact details). We will then invite you to attend an interview with one of the sixth form team to discuss your plans for the future, talk about your progress, see references and answer any questions you may have about blatch6.

Following interviews, you will normally receive a provisional offer of a place at blatch6. By receiving an offer well in advance of the GCSE exams, you will have clear targets to aim for and will be able to plan your work and revision accordingly.

Once you have received your GCSE grades, you will be asked to confirm your place and your subjects at blatch6. This will usually happen during the September induction time. If you have changed your mind about one of your courses because of exam results we can accept most late changes providing you satisfy the entry requirements and spaces remain for that course.
