Entry requirements for Sixth Form courses
- If you have achieved at least 6 grade A-Cs at GCSES or equivalent level (across 4 subjects) with a mixture of A,B and C grades, then you will study a programme of 4 advanced level courses.
- If you have achieved 5 grade A-C at GCSE or equivalent level, (across 4 subjects) then you will study a programme of 3 advanced level courses plus one non level 3 course.
- If you have achieved 4 grade A-C at GCSE or equivalent level, then you will study an intermediate level 2 programme but you MAY be able to add one advanced level course, if you have gained an A grade in that subject at GCSE level and subject staff recommend you for this course.
- If you have achieved 5 GCSE grades with at least 3 being above an E, you will study a level 2 programme.
All advanced level students will complete level 2 key skills in communication to enable them to show skills of expression and communication.
All level 2 students will be working towards achieving level 2 qualifications in literacy, numeracy and ICT.
The key skills qualification in improving your own learning will be a feature of tutorial work.
Criteria for students completing a third year of post 16 education at Blatch6:
-Students taking a one year Level 2 course and then wishing to move on to undertake a two year Level 3 course: To fulfil this criteria you must obtain at least a Merit in your Level 2 BTEC course;
- Students completing at least one A2 in a specific subject they have an AS in: To meet this criteria, students must obtain at least a D grade in the subject they wish to carry on;
- Students taking an additional vocational qualification which will aid their future career plans, e.g. Health and Social Care, ICT, Stage Management, etc….
- Students who have returned from other colleges after one year and have then taken a two year pathway: Where individual circumstances dictate that a third year is required to complete a course.
Internal Blatch students
You will usually be given an allocated time for an interview where you will be seen by a member of the sixth form team. This will cover your progress so far, your plans for the future and any subject choices or questions. It will be your chance to find out more about the way sixth form works. You can hand your application form in during the interview.
Students new to Blatch
Please fill in an application form for blatch6 and return or send to Caroline Rivett at blatch6 reception. (See our Contact details). We will then invite you to attend an interview with one of the sixth form team to discuss your plans for the future, talk about your progress, see references and answer any questions you may have about blatch6.
Following interviews, you will normally receive a provisional offer of a place at blatch6. By receiving an offer well in advance of the GCSE exams, you will have clear targets to aim for and will be able to plan your work and revision accordingly.
Once you have received your GCSE grades, you will be asked to confirm your place and your subjects at blatch6. This will usually happen during the September induction time. If you have changed your mind about one of your courses because of exam results we can accept most late changes providing you satisfy the entry requirements and spaces remain for that course.
