Spanish NVQ

Course Content

Always wanted to learn Spanish but never had the opportunity?
This course is designed for beginners who have not studied Spanish before. Students will learn practical Spanish, which they can use on a visit to Spain.

Typical topics include:

  • Ordering food and drink in a bar/restaurant
  • Arranging accomodation
  • Meeting people and giving personal details
  • Finding out about facilities in a town/region of Spain or a Spanish-speaking country
  • Finding out about the culture and traditions of Spain and Spanish-speaking countries

Assessment

Students will build up a portfolio of work for assessment by an external verifier. Students will complete assessments and assignments during the course. There will be no terminal examination to complete. The standard of work in students’ portfolio will determine the level achieved. During the one-year course some students will achieve Level 1, whereas others may go on to achieve Level 2.

Possible Careers

Many colleges offer NVQ language units. Students can progress up the ladder of language qualification. There are five levels, from level 1 to 5. Level 2 is equivalent to GCSE Grade C and Level 5 is degree level. Employers are familiar with and recognise NVQ qualifications.
The ability to speak and understand one or more foreign languages is very useful in many careers. Here are some examples: sales and marketing, tourism, international banking, secreterial work, administation, accountancy, armed forces, management consultancy, law, media.
