Law AS A2Exam Board AQACourse ContentThe AS syllabus covers four modules, two at AS and two at A2: Law making and the legal systemModule one includes a study of the court system, including juries and magistrates, as well as the legal profession. This includes court visits, and a trip to the Houses of Parliament to see how laws are made. The concept of liabilityModule Two looks at criminal and civil law in practice, and students are expected to apply their knowledge to practical problem solving. Criminal law - offences against the personModule 3 deals with more complex criminal law, including murder, manslaughter and non fatal offences. Again, the emphasis is on applying this law to practical problem scenarios. Criminal law - property offences and concepts of lawModule 4 covers a range of property offences- theft, fraud, burglary, robbery and criminal damage. It also considers the links between law, justice and morality, with students studying and discussing cases currently in the news. Students are also encouraged to discuss and debate legal issues and problems throughout the course, as well as looking at current affairs which involve issues of legal interest. AssessmentAssessment is by exam only - there is no coursework.
