ICT National Certificate (Level 3)

Exam Board OCR

Typical Entry Requirements

OCR Nationals Award (2 GCSE) – Merit Overall

Course Content

The OCR Nationals in ICT Level 3 offer students a more in-depth look at ICT in the modern workplace, and give an insight into its role in specialist careers. As an alternative to Applied GCE, or similar exam-based courses, these qualifications provide ongoing learning and assessment of the practical skills and knowledge required to succeed in ICT-related careers or for further study. The course is equivalent to 1 A-Level at grades A-E and carries the same UCAS points.

From a central bank of 29 units, candidates must achieve six units to gain the full qualification. Of the six units required, four units are compulsory (ie are prescribed by OCR and must be achieved by all candidates taking this qualification). The remaining two units can be chosen from a list of 25 optional units.

Compulsory units:

  • Unit 1: Digital business communications
  • Unit 2: Collaborative working
  • Unit 3: Problem solving
  • Unit 4: Creating a digital showcase

Assessment

All units are centre-assessed and externally moderated by OCR. There are no exams for this qualification. The full award and units from this qualification are graded as Pass, Merit or Distinction.

Possible Careers

These qualifications are designed to enable candidates to enter employment at operative or trainee level within a wide range of ICT environments. Such candidates would normally enter employment through a work-related training programme.
