English and Functional Skills GCSEExam Board AQA specification A edexcelCourse ContentIt is aimed at students who have missed out on achieving a C at GCSE and who would like another opportunity to do so. Students, working closely with their teacher, can decide whether to resubmit their coursework grades, focusing primarily on the exam or to create a new folder as well as preparing for examination. Alongside this course, students can also enter for Functional skills Level 2. Much of the course content sits comfortably alongside the GCSE course. The examination involves a reading paper with some multiple choice questions and longer questions; the written paper involves two written tasks. The Speaking and Listening element of the course requires students to present a talk to argue, persuade or advise. Certification is awarded on a pass/fail basis. AssessmentFunctional Skills One exam on reading, writing, speaking and listening coursework assessed by the teacher. The GCSE retake will include assessment of coursework if marks are not carried forward. There will also be two exam papers examining reading and writing. Possible CareersThose considering taking a new Diploma course require Functional Skills to achieve a pass at level 2.
