Citizenship Studies GCSE Short Course

Course Content

Citizenship Studies is at the heart of contemporary debates about the kind of society we are striving to build and the role of the state in the process.

This subject will:

  • prepare students to become active citizens of our democracy, focussing on active citizenship
  • promote students’ personal and social development, making them more self-confident and responsible, in the classroom and beyond.

Unit 1 (40%) Written paper

Theme 1 Active citizenship and community action
Theme 2 Democracy and identity
Theme 3 Fairness and justice
Theme 4 Global issues and making a difference

Unit 2 (60%) Coursework

Students are required to undertake a citizenship activity within a group and present their case to other students and reflect upon and evaluate their body of work.

This course is part of the level 2 supporting package for students.
