Course Content

Chemistry at Advanced Level develops understanding of how and why materials behave as they do, and how we can often tailor their properties to our needs. Chemistry is a fundamental area of study in its own right but also an excellent support to biology and physics. The Salters course provides an innovative and stimulating approach to teaching and learning chemistry in which chemical concepts are developed through modern applications such as plastics, textiles, agriculture, fine arts and medicines.

Assessment

Assessment is through a combination of 2 modular exams, coursework and individual practical investigations.

Possible Careers

A level Chemistry is essential for many career paths, including Medicine, Veterinary and Environmental Sciences, as well the more obvious professions in Industrial and Research Chemistry. Salters Chemistry provides not only an excellent grounding in the subject but help the development of study skills and the independence required for higher education.
It is a solid academic subject and, beyond degree level, can lead to a diverse career choice from pilot to lawyer; journalist to politician. It is recommended students achieve 5 A – C grades plus a grade B in double science or a grade C in single chemistry.
The aim of the course is to develop an understanding of the main principles of solving problems using computers, plus to develop an understanding of the range of applications, and the components of computer systems, and an appreciation of their uses. In addition, it will encourage students to become more critical in their thinking, design and planning.
