Art and Design Level 2 BTEC First Diploma

Exam Board EDEXCEL

Course Content

This Art and Design course has been organised to develop a range of knowledge, skills and understanding. It encourages students to investigate and work with a wide range of materials.

Students study a minimum of two core units:

  • 2D and 3D visual communication
  • Contextual references in Art and Design

They can then add on specialist units* that include –

  • Graphics
  • 3D Design
  • Photography
  • Visual Arts
  • Fashion *
  • 3D Design Crafts
  • Textiles
  • Interactive Media

This course is the equivalent to four A-C GCSEs and is therefore seen as a bridging course between year 11 and further level three (A level) and higher education courses.
All units are internally assessed, and graded. An overall grade for the qualification is awarded based on an overall point score and unit grades. There is no examination but selected units are externally moderated.

This is an exciting, challenging and practical course suitable for any student looking for a one year course and who might be considering a career linked in any way to Art, Design and Textiles.

A BTEC First diploma prepares students for employment and provides a good grounding to go on to a more advanced BTEC National Diploma. On completion of a BTEC National, students can progress to a BTEC Higher National or BTEC Foundation Degree programme.
