How to choose the right course

Moving onto 6th form study requires making some important choices. At Blatch 6, we want to ensure that you make the right course choices for you, so that you have a successful and enjoyable time studying here. To do this you need to think about what you want to do in the future, whether you want to go to university, further education or into employment. You also need to think about your future career plans and the specific qualifications required for each chosen pathway. However, learning should be enjoyable as well as rewarding. It is important you think about what you find interesting, what enthuses and motivates you. It might also be helpful to think about what method of assessment you are most suited to, examination or coursework.

You will also need to consider what GCSE grades you are expecting to get as this will indicate what courses you are eligible to study at Blatch 6.

• If you are looking to achieve at least 6 grade A-Cs at GCSES or equivalent level (across 4 subjects) with a mixture of A, B and C grades, then you will be able to study a programme of 4 advanced level courses.
• If you are looking to achieve 5 grade A-Cs at GCSE or equivalent level, (across 4 subjects) then you will study a programme of 3 advanced level courses plus one non level 3 course.
• If you are looking to achieve 4 grade A-C at GCSE or equivalent level, then you will study an intermediate level 2 programme but you MAY be able to add one advanced level course, if you have gained an A grade in that subject at GCSE level and subject staff recommend you for this course.
• If you are looking to achieve 5 GCSE grades with at least 3 being above an E, you will study a level 2 programme.

*Please note that we require equivalent vocational qualifications to be graded at merit or distinction level.
